Are you tired all day but still struggling to sleep at night?

Are you eating the same as before and exercising as much (or as little) as you’ve always done but still can’t shift that weight.

Are you over 40?

Are you nodding your head? Good, because that means you’re in the right place.

Here’s the thing, there’s a lot of hormonal change going on for you right now.

You progesterone levels are dropping and so is oestrogen. What that means is there’s a lot of stress on your internal systems.

When there’s stress on your internal systems production of cortisol your main stress hormone increases.

Cortisol can be a bit of a bully and quite easily dominate all your other hormones.

If it rises too high it becomes toxic and that toxicity throws your other hormones out of alignment creating further hormone imbalance.

So what’s the answer?

Well, if your hormones are driving you crazy and you feel like your body’s turning against you it’s time to make a few changes.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • If you can’t sleep but you’re still drinking caffeine cut back. If you still can’t sleep cut it out completely. There’s a whole range of herbal infusions available – eventually you’ll find one you like! My ninja trick for enjoying herbal teas especially the green ones is to not use boiling water. 80 – 90 degrees is about right and stops it from tasting so bitter.
  • If you’re energy’s fading in the afternoon and you always have a sandwich for lunch, eat something different. Foods that cause an insulin release like whole grain breads, sweet fruits and dairy will perk you up briefly but your energy levels will soon crash again.
  • If you’re struggling to shift that menopause weight gain despite all the exercise you do, it’s time to exercise in a different way. Avoid long slow cardio workouts of 20 minutes or more. That type of exercise increases the stress on your system and will stop your body from burning fat. The exact opposite of what you want! Even worse, it will use glycogen from your muscles and that will lead to an increase in your appetite.

Gradually introduce all three changes and you’ll soon notice a real difference in your energy levels, sleep quality and dress size.
