How many of you are unhappy with some part of your body and want to change it? How many times have you tried to lose weight but later put it all back on again? Do you know why that was?
Too often we blame lack of willpower, lack of time, a diet that’s too restrictive or maybe an exercise programme that’s just too hard. But I’m convinced there’s an entirely different reason you’re not getting the results you want.
If you want to lose weight and change your body shape there’s a crucial step you need to take before you even start looking at what you eat or the way in which you exercise. And if you skip that step and go straight to adjusting your food intake or your energy output you will not succeed. It’s imperative you take that first smart step and it’s one of the foundation stones of my Smart Weight Loss Programme.
You need to set yourself at least three Goals – Gorgeous Goals. What do I mean by that? You need to get absolutely clear on what you’re trying to achieve both in the short term and the long term.
So if you want to drop a dress size or two what size do you want to be? A size 16, 14 or 12? And when do you want to be that size? Within two months, three months or six? Is there a particular item of clothing you want to be able to fit back into or is there a fabulous event on the horizon that you want to get in shape for? Maybe you’re due to give an important presentation at work and you need to be focused on what you’re saying not on how much your waistband is digging into you. The key is to have absolutely clarity on what you want to achieve and why. If your weight loss goal is to feel comfortable in your work suit for a big meeting with a new team in 8 weeks how many inches do you need to lose for that suit to feel good?
Once you are clear on your healthy weight loss goals, write them down. Write them down multiple times. Keep one set in your handbag, another by your bedside, pop a copy in your drawer at work and have a set in the car too. That way you can constantly remind yourself of what you’re trying to achieve. Revisit your gorgeous goals every single day to keep your mind focused on what you want rather than what you don’t want. When you believe you can achieve!
So if you want to lose weight and not put it back on again the first thing you must do before you even think about changing your eating habits is to set clear cut goals – gorgeous goals!
